Holding Patterns was installed in Grant Park for the Taste of Chicago in 2021. Images composed by Preus were printed on large banner material and used as the sides of the music tent along with 100 cubes made in collaboration with many Chicago artists including Norman Teague, Michelle deLeon, Will FitzPatrick, Christophe Gausparro, Erik Peterson, Julio Vargas, Caroline Robe, Kevin Clarke, John Badal, Titus Wonsey, Seth Keller, Cherrie Yu, Josh Truman, Josh Thilmany, Georgie Schaeffer, and Mike Anthony. The installation included 10 picnic tables designed by Preus and fabricated by Georgie Schaeffer.
